When a man spots a woman he finds attractive he holds his gaze for an average of 8.2 seconds.According to an article in the journal Archives of Sexual Behavior, researchers secretly filmed the eye movements of 115 male and female university students as they mingled with planted actors and actresses. Afterward the students were asked to rate the attractiveness of the people they'd seen.
Referring back to the videotape, they calculated that males gazed into the eyes of the actresses they had rated good-looking for 8.2 seconds, while they only held their stare for 4.5 seconds when giving the once-over to an actress they didn't fancy. The female students held eye contact with the actors for about the same amount of time regardless of how they rated them.
Of course, the 8.2 seconds of eye contact the guys offered was probably followed by minutes of admiring other body parts.
