Superstitions and misinformation rule some parts of the world. None more so than in Bihar. And once again, showing their authority in such matters, Bihar has outdone the country in a bid for rain. While there was much silliness around the country to attract rain (yagnas, pujas and what not), there was no place in the country where young daughters were made to plough the fields naked. By their own fathers.
Now, for rain, they make their daughter plough naked. Can you imagine what they would make them do for food or worse -- money? The end result is that there still isn't much rain in those parts. And we can't help but think that the daughters may still be ploughing.
And here's the real kicker: "This is the most trusted social custom in the area and the villagers have vowed to continue this practice until it rains very heavily."
We seriously hope the Gods (those in charge of rain and general water dispersal) are indeed listening (or watching).
