Required reading from the week in books.

"Bloom County: The Complete Library Volume 1" begins the first major reprinting of Berkeley Breathed's acclaimed comic strip. Though even Breathed admits he was ripping off "Doonesbury" in the early days, there are still some gems among the dated Reagan jabs.

Also in stores:
-- "Eating Animals" is hipster author Jonathan Safran Foer's diatribe on the benefits of a vegetarianism. The guy's a good writer and all, but that title's more than a little on the nose.
-- "And Another Thing ..." is author Eoin Colfer's continuation of Douglas Adams' "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" series. Commence nerd rage as you see fit.
-- "Dread & Superficiality: Woody Allen As a Comic Strip" collects cartoons from the brief period where Woody Allen shared the same space as "The Lockhorns." The '70s were a weird time, man.
