As we all know, if there's one plus side to having kids, it's that you get a tiny little human to completely mess with. 15 years ago, when d'Armond Speers had a child, he decided he should grow up in a bilingual home -- his wife would speak English, and he would speak Klingon, to see if his son, Alec, would learn it like any other human language. And, of course, Alec did, and they would sing Klingon lullabies together, until eventually Alec abandoned the Klingon language due to a lack of people to talk to.
Now 15 years old, Alec no longer speaks a word of Klingon, which is a shame because he's getting close to nenghep, and what teenager doesn't want a night of competitive drinking followed by ceremonial pain sticks?
Still, there's at least one good thing to come out of messing with the mind of a young child -- d'Armond Speers recently helped a company create a Klingon translator for smartphones and computers.
Sometimes screwing with the minds of babies transcends fun and heads straight to dollartown. Something to bear in mind when confronted by a gaggle of nephews this festive season.
