A race-car driver in England has souped up a lawnmower in the hopes of breaking a world speed record for a grass-cutting device. Don Wales, who already holds the land-speed record for a steam-powered vehicle, is aiming to best the current lawnmower speed record of 80 mph set by a guy named Bob Cleveland in 2006. And with test runs topping 100 mph, he may beat Bob Cleveland's lawnmower speed record but he'll never beat him in the category of Best Name.
"It is a really exciting project, and I am delighted to be a part of it," Wales said. "How often do you get to drive a lawnmower at more than 100 miles per hour?"
As part of the rules, the device must be able to actually mow grass. The official Guinness Book of World Records attempt will take place in February in England.
